THE SCIENCE OF WHERE

GeoMentor

Help teachers bring Geography to life with ArcGIS

Esri UK and the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) are working together to develop a UK network of GeoMentors to support the use of ArcGIS Online in the classroom.

Knowledgeable GIS professionals who volunteer as GeoMentors will help teachers to apply ArcGIS Online in the classroom to meet the criteria of the new geography curriculum and beyond.

GeoMentors for GIS Professionals

Can you help inspire the next generation of GIS Professionals by using your skills to help teachers introduce GIS to a classroom near you?

With GIS now embedded in the national curriculum in England and Wales, many teachers are keen to learn the basics of GIS from professionals who use the technology in their everyday working lives. Being a Geomentor is a fantastic opportunity for GIS enthusiasts to help teachers develop their technology skills and enthuse their pupils.

Although not a compulsory part of the curriculum in Scotland GIS still has a role to play in the geography classroom. If you are a GIS Professional based in Scotland please sign up and get involved.

Inspire Fascination

Help teachers create and deliver engaging and informative lesson plans with GIS, to help children gain the knowledge they need to be successful in their GCSE and A-Level geography studies.

Using curriculum-aligned lesson plans, from Esri UK’s Educational Resource Centre, GeoMentors work with teachers to help them use ArcGIS, to confidently deliver their lessons in schools.

Spark Interest

Help teachers understand how you use GIS to deliver insights in your day-to-day work.

Become a GeoMentor to bring real-life stories into the classroom and help spark interest in a career with geography.

Using pre-planned lesson guides from Esri UK’s education resource centre, and your knowledge of GIS, work with teachers to help them inspire their pupils to explore the natural environment and the role of geography in everyday life.
